NEW: Recommended Reading

This is ritual drama with a difference. Everyone knows the story of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and the Quest for the Holy Grail. It is ingrained in our legendary past and has become a symbol of hope for our beleaguered future.

In these three days we hope to bring the story to life once more. Instead of a lot of lectures, there will be enactments of crucial parts of the legend.

Each participant will take on the persona of a member of the Court of Camelot and maintain that persona. So you may be Galahad or Nimue, Lady Ragnell the wife of Gawain or Linet the wife of Sir Bors. You may end up as the dour Sir Kai, or Morgan Le Faye. You will not know until the time comes.

Ladies will need to have at least one medieval type gown and headdress. Men need either court dress of the time or half-armour, as well as a sword and a shield with an appropriate charge.

The lecture room will be made into a medieval castle hall, complete with the Table Round, wall hangings, herbs and rushes on the floor, harpist and bard.

More than ritual drama, this gathering harkens the spirit of Arthur and his Knights back from Avalon to awaken the Mysteries of the Grail held within. As we immerse ourselves in the magic of Camelot, the deeper significance of the microcosmic “ United Kingdom” is revealed. And, through the search for the Grail, each attendee has the possibility, if they dare, to restore the Kingdom within.

Please note the workshop is open to non SoL members.

Ladies include:

Guenevere. Igraine the Queen Mother, Morgan le Faye. Elaine.

Nimue. The Lady of the Lake. Lady Ragnell. Lady Linet. Lady

Blanchemain, The Grail Maiden, The Maiden of the Holy Lance.

Men include:

Arthur. Lancelot. Galahad. Perceval. Bors, Gawaine. Mordred.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Isis Oasis is a magical sanctuary in the wine country where vines and the flowing river blend harmoniously to create colorful imagery through-out the seasons. Once a Pomo Indian ceremonial ground, then a Bahai' School whose principle philosophy is global unity, it is now a sanctuary that provides an extraordinary environment for body, mind and spirit. Ten acres of lush foliage include a 500-year-old fir tree as a centerpiece, a swan pond, waterfalls, an aviary of exotic birds, animals and endangered felines.

A sauna, sparkling pool and spa set within a secluded garden enhance your special time of rest and relaxation. Their meditation temple will add a sense of the sacred
during your visit.

Delicious and nutritious meals will be provided from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch at the dining hall. Vegetarian options will be served at each meal.

More info at Isis Oasis website.

SUPPLIES

Ladies will need to have at least one medieval type gown and headdress. Men need either court dress of the time or half-armour, as well as a sword and a shield with an appropriate charge.

A NOTE from Laura:

Ladies: (and anyone else who wants to sew a costume) I recommend getting on you local fabric stor mailing list. JoAnn, Beverlys, Hancock usually send out
coupons for up to 40% off 1 item (including fabric) each month! Also pattern sales happen all the time.

(Note: I'd also recommend using lightweight fabric like "Silkessence" it's pretty cheap to begin with at about $3.99 per yard, and comes in wonderful jewel
colors, if you're making a pattern with 6 to 11 yards of fabric, you can see you don't want to be wearing 8 yards of velvet in Mid-September!)
